Marine litter effects on land

As usual human cause water pollution by dumping rubbish,litter in oceans. This litter causes death in some organisms since for example peguins in the Arctic can get pieces of plastic stuck around their necks or some fishes eating pieces of plastic as they mistake it for food cause population destruction for some species. Land organisms for instance bears and red coastal wolves depend on salmon fish during spring time when they come out of hibernation. Salmon fish thrive best in deep sea cold water's, and if litter thrown into ocean affect organisms, can thus affect food webs. Therefore if the salmon population is affected, this can therefore affect the land creatures who depend on the salmon fishes as a main source of food. Meaning that if the salmon become contaminated from the litter, the land animals can also be contaminated. This is termed biomagnification, the transfer of contaminants through a food chain.

Economy declines due to loss of marine life

Marine Species can have a huge impact on the life of humans. This goes largely unnoticed in society as it doesn't  seem to be prevalent over luxuries.Species such as lobsters, fish, crabs all live ecosystems that can be disturbed due to debris being dumped in waterways. Because of the amount of debris littered in the waterways, this can cause a change in pH and salinity levels that can cause death to organisms.Since dumping of rubbish causes a decline in species population, economies can be affected as many marine critters are consumed as food, since fish is a large protein source for those mainly living on the coasts. Because marine animal populations are decreasing, fishermen will not get the amount of catch they usually get per day and thus result in these fishermen losing their jobs.

Habitat Destruction

Habitat destruction is one of the main causes of high death rates in organisms, be it terrestrial or marine. This can be caused by acts such as sewage distribution into water ways and water bodies and this can damage coral reefs which are the main habitats for most organisms as well as kill the corals themselves. This can cause a huge disruption in food webs as it endangers the life there. When the pH of the water changes it can abruptly affect the organisms as their bodies can actually implode due to wrong concentrations of the pH. There is also dumping of plastics and items that are not biodegradable into the marine body which can harm the organisms as stated before. There is only so much that can be done in the case of rehabilitation if these processes are allowed to continue and basically there will always be a loss of life, be it large or small in number. Dumping of litter can cover the seabeds and can physically damage the organisms which reside there such as bottom feeders in that regard.

    Litter in any environment on the whole can cause a lot of disruption in terms of life cycles of the organisms there as well as the habitat of the populations of the species there at hand. There are a lot of scientific facts and evidence which can prove this. Studies have shown this to be true. Marine litter has a great impact on the Marine life ]..let alone its habitats!

Marine litter has a great impact on the environment, yet it's consequences are overlooked by the wider population. This is, in fact one of the reasons why  i chose this topic as my Blog's topic. Marine litter is as influential to marine organisms as it is to any normal organism who is exposed to foreign material which can harm them unknowingly. An example which can always be reused is that of the penguin and the beer case plastic circles which can strangle the penguin, if its a newborn as it grows and its neck width increases. 

The litter in a marine ecosystem can multiply rapidly if not treated as soon as possible. When a problem is overlooked, it naturally gets worse, this is constant in any case. The renowned fact that litter is unknowingly allowed by the population is accepted as a fault of human irresponsibility that is embedded in our natural behavior. Even tho this is an irresponsibility, it isn't the fault of the whole population due to the simple fact of there being a part of the population helping out in different situations and organizations. The world should be thankful to those individuals who play a major minor role in the restoration of the ecosystems at large.

This blog is the first of many that will inspire and allow fellow environmentalists to inform thereselves about marine ecosystems and its changes as well as pros and cons.

      Hi, I'm Vashisht Manoo and just finished CAPE after 2 years I was always interested with the environment and it's fauna and floral aspects. The school that I attended before CAPE was a Hindu College known as Vishnu Boys. I always had a passion for Information Technology but i saw my future as being an environmental scientist and helping out as best as I can in as many ways as possible.

      I enjoy a lot of luxuries the main being food and the simpler hobbies like teaching guitar , drums, singing and culinary arts and football. My passions are Martial Arts and Gym, as well as anything that relates to fitness. I have been into Martial Arts for 8 years and did 4 different forms such as Kana ju jitsu ryu and aikido for example. I love making people smile around me and having an atmosphere of laughter and joy...

I can see myself enjoying this degree of Environmental Science with memorable experiences and expectant difficulties which will be dealt with a calm mind.
